PlanetWatch is a French company with offices located in the Pays de Gex region, very close to the Swiss border, the city of Geneva and CERN.
What we do We leverage advanced technologies and the direct engagement of the population to improve environmental monitoring worldwide and help protect public health.
Our current focus is on air quality. We are building a global network of outdoor air quality sensors and people who care about the environment (PlanetWatchers). Some sensors are installed and managed by local residents, with additional sensors being installed by PlanetWatch in partnership with transport and telecommunications companies, local authorities, etc. This approach allows us to rapidly deploy low-cost, high-density air quality monitoring networks which fill a data gap in governmental networks.
Sensor data is recorded on the Algorand blockchain, building the first global, decentralized, permanent air quality ledger. All sensors streaming valid data to PlanetWatch earn Planet token rewards.
We also pioneer innovative indoor air quality monitoring and COVID-19 risk mitigation solutions for hotels, hospitals, classrooms. Indoor air quality is getting less media attention than outdoors’, however it is equally important for human health, as most of us spend more time indoors than outdoors.
Recent research is suggesting that air quality could play a role in the spread and severity of the COVID-19 pandemic in two ways:
An increase of only 1 μg/m3 in PM2.5 particulate in the air isassociated with a 8% increase in the COVID-19 death rate (reference)
The World Health Organization has acknowledged that “aerosolized”, microscopic droplets, which can float in the air for hours, might favour the spread of the new coronavirus especially in crowded indoor venues (reference) . This is a risk that event organizers, bus operators, school, university, mall, cinema, hotel managers, etc, cannot afford to ignore. Air quality monitoring is a key element in COVID-19 risk mitigation strategies.
